As an Airline Pilot, I use checklists every day as a method of industry best practice so that no critical procedure is forgotten. Use my Packing Checklist as a guide to work out what you might need to buy for your next trip and create a shopping list.
Then check-off all your belongings to make sure you have them packed. Keep a record of the quantities of items (number of shirts etc.). This checklist then becomes a great record to keep in case your belongings get lost or stolen and you need to claim for insurance, file police reports or need to know what to now replace.
