13. Food and Drink in the Bahamas

If there’s one thing that the culinary world knows the Caribbean for, it’s seafood. Fortunately, a Bahamas vacation is no exception. Fresh and delectable seafood is on offer throughout the archipelago. Fish Fry’s are excellent places to try out new dishes on your Bahamas tour. The series of food trucks, stalls and street vendors fill the air with delicious smells, but also an exciting buzz. To walk through the streets of Nassau’s Arawak Cay, grabbing a local Kalik beer and a sumptuous seafood meal before enjoying them on the beach is one of the best things to do in Bahamas.

One ingredient that can be found in most traditional Bahamian dishes is the meat of the Conch mollusc. This white, chewy meat has a unique flavour that, when mixed with the right spices, can taste truly sensational. There are so many different ways to prepare and experience the conch flavour during your Bahamas vacation. So if you don’t enjoy your first dish, don’t be put off. Raw conch mixed with citrus fruits, salad and spices is a very popular and refreshing daytime meal in the Bahamas. If you’d prefer something a little more cooked, cracked conch is for you. Cracked conch is deep fried, giving the meat a mouthwatering new texture and flavour. Conch fritters are also a popular way to enjoy this local cuisine. Whatever you decide to eat, whether it’s conch from a fish fry or lobster at a luxurious restaurant, Bahamian seafood is exceptional.
